Trap with scent (kairomone) to catch raspberry flies in the berry orchard. In a package of 1 trap including scent 1 capsule.

Orders placed by Sunday evening will be shipped the following Tuesday.

Raspberry meadows (Byturus tomentosus) can cause great damage to raspberries and blackberries. The adult beetle overwinters in the soil and wakes up in April. It then feeds on leaves, buds and pollen. When the temperature rises to 12-15 degrees, it begins to lay eggs in the raspberry flowers. The larva hatches and feeds on the ripe berries. It hides inside the berry, which makes it difficult to detect before the berry is picked.

The trap has two ways of attracting raspberry flies:

1. The trap looks like a large raspberry flower with white crossed “wings”, and is designed to attract the raspberry weevil. When the raspberry weevil flies into the crossed white “wings”, they fall into a funnel and underneath it is a container of soapy water that prevents the raspberry weevil from getting out.

2. It contains a scent that attracts the raspberry moth. To ensure a good catch, the specific scent for raspberry moths should be added to a special container on top of the trap.

The trap comes with 1 capsule of fragrance and a special net to cover the funnel, so that bumblebees and bees do not fall down and get caught.

User manual

The trap should be hung 4-6 weeks before flowering (April-May). It should be hung 1-1.5 meters above the ground. Fill with water and a few drops of soap or washing-up liquid. Clean up around the trap so that it is clearly visible and easily accessible.

The raspberry leafhopper can also attack early autumn raspberries. Remember to buy extra fragrance for this period, so you have full good coverage.

One trap covers an area of up to 250 ^m2

SEEDS (20 pcs/bag)

Common name: Harmel bush, Syrian rue
Scientific name: Peganum harmala
Family: Zygophyllaceae

Plant history & use:

The harmel bush is a historically well-known plant and is still used today in calming medicines—mainly in the Middle East, North Africa, and southwestern Asia, but also in Finland it is a prescription medicinal plant.

It is the roots and seeds that are used, which are either made into a decoction, ground down, or from which oil is extracted.

The seeds are also used to dye fabrics, giving a red color.

The mature seeds contain 3.8 - 5.8% of the alkaloids harmine, harmaline, harmalol, and peganin. They are harmless as contact poison for humans and animals but in vapor form they are active and effective against algae and deadly to mold, bacteria, and intestinal parasites.

There are speculations that this plant was the sacred "Soma" plant, used in ancient India and Persia as a hallucinogenic aid to "understand the deeper meaning of life".

Seeds are also used as incense.

Cultivation:

The harmel bush is a low-growing (0.5-1 m), perennial shrub.

The key to successful cultivation of the harmel bush is well-drained soil. Not sensitive to sandy and nutrient-poor soils. Mediterranean soil works excellently. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Prefers an open location with full sun.

Can be grown outdoors in Sweden. The harmel bush withstands temperatures down to -20°C and survives the winter despite shedding its foliage, thanks to its strong root system. The likelihood of successful outdoor overwintering is higher if the bush grows in dry soil rather than moist soil.

Sowing:

Sow either indoors in pots or outdoors in open ground from May to September.

Characteristics:

Longevity: Perennial
Growing position: sun
Height: 50-100 cm
Germination time: 1-8 weeks
Hardiness zone: 1-5

An example of such use can be found in the Thai dish Pad Kaprao, which is named after the Sacred basil’s Thai name kaprao. Sometimes it is mixed with lemongrass, honey, and lime.

Butterfly Pea is also used in traditional medicine as a relaxant and memory enhancer.

The normally blue-colored drink shifts to a light purple color if something sour, such as lemon, is added. This is due to pH changes in the composition. Similarly, Butterfly Pea flowers are sometimes used to make blue gin that turns purple when tonic is added.

As a comparison, one can think that tea made from Butterfly Pea is used in Asia in the same way we use chamomile tea in Sweden.

Like the Goa bean, Butterfly Pea is regenerative for the soil as it fixes nitrogen from air pores in the soil and works well as a ground cover crop. However, Butterfly Pea is generally not hardy in Sweden, unlike the Goa bean.

Cultivation:

Butterfly Pea is a sun-loving, fast-growing plant that quickly establishes itself if it has something to climb on.

Growing in pots is recommended if you want it to become perennial in Sweden. Overwinter frost-free.

Can grow in both moist and dry soils. Thrives surprisingly well in heavy clay soils. For pot cultivation, a humus-rich soil with good drainage should be used.

Pinch branches for a bushier growth habit.

Sowing:

Start indoors early in the year, or sow outdoors in April-May.

Soak the seeds for 1 day in advance. Sow in moist soil and preferably cover with plastic with small air holes to maintain good moisture.

Seeds from Butterfly Pea often germinate irregularly; one seed can sometimes sprout a whole month earlier than another seed in the same sowing. If you want more control over the whole process, Butterfly Pea seeds are easy to germinate on a piece of moist paper. Place the paper in, for example, a food container with the lid slightly ajar – keep moist. Now you can easily see when each seed starts to sprout and gradually pick out seed by seed and sow in a small pot with soil.

Characteristics:

Life span: Perennial
Light: sun
Height: 150-300 cm
Germination time: 10-20 days

The leaves are silver-green underneath and give the bush an olive-like appearance, which has earned it the nickname "olive willow".

The bush blooms discreetly in autumn with small, fragrant flowers followed by edible, red berries in late summer or autumn. The berries can be eaten fresh when fully ripe or used for jam, jelly, or wine. They are rich in vitamin C and have traditionally been used in simple herbal medicine. The plant also fixes nitrogen and improves the soil around it.

Cultivation

Thrives in sun to partial shade and is tolerant of wind, salt, and drought. Grows quickly and is excellent as a free-growing hedge, privacy screen, or solitary bush. Tolerates pruning well and can be shaped as needed. Best overwintered in plant zone 1, but with a sheltered location it can also survive in zone 2, especially once established. Evergreen leaves may suffer frost damage in severe cold – the bush will, however, produce new leaves in spring in such cases.

Characteristics

Longevity: Perennial
Light conditions: Sun to partial shade
Height: 2–4 meters (can be kept lower with pruning)
Plant zone: 1–2
Flowering: September–October
Fruit: Sweet red berries ripen during spring and summer months
