Plant history & use
'Brown Turkey' is a classic fig variety widely grown in Europe due to its reliability, hardiness, and good fruiting. The variety produces medium to large figs with brown-purple skin and juicy, sweet amber-colored flesh. The figs can be eaten fresh, dried, or used in cooking and baking. In favorable locations, two harvests per season can be obtained – a smaller one in July and a larger one in September.
Cultivation
Thrives best in a warm and sheltered spot with full sun. Grown in well-drained, humus-rich soil – preferably in raised beds or large pots. In colder parts of the country, the plant does best in a greenhouse, sunroom, or against a warm south-facing wall. Prune lightly to maintain a compact shape and stimulate fruiting.
