Plant history & use:
'Buckingham Tayberry' is a thornless variety with even smooth leaves that produces abundant good berries.
The tayberry bush produces large, flavorful, and juicy dark red berries that are excellent to eat fresh – but also suitable for making juice, jam, and even wine.
Another tasty way to use tayberries is to bake a tayberry pie.
Like other hybrids, the Tayberry also shows good resistance to plant diseases.
Cultivation:
Preferably grow in well-drained, humus-rich soil in a warm and sunny spot. Does not thrive well in heavy clay soils, dry sandy soils, or waterlogged areas.
The tayberry bush has inherited its long and slender branches from the blackberry and is therefore excellent for growing climbing in a pergola, against a wall, or similar. The bush’s development and health generally benefit from some kind of support for the branches.
The berries ripen from mid-July to the end of August. Berries form on branches that are at least 2 years old.
