Biological product against butterfly larvae in vegetable, berry, fruit and ornamental crops. Package of 30 grams.

LARV protection is a biological product that is effective against butterfly larvae in crops of vegetables, berries, fruit and ornamental plants; for example, cabbage moth, cabbage butterfly, vegetable fly, frost butterfly, bird spider moth and fruit peeler.

LAR Vskydd contains the naturally occurring bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis which acts in the larva's digestive tract after the larva has eaten treated leaves and other plant parts. LARVA protection is effective against all types of butterfly larvae.

Butterfly larvae can be identified by a few characteristics:

- All butterfly larvae have a head, biting mouthparts and 3 pairs of thoraxes.

- On the hind body segments they also have short, soft so-called abdominal feet that resemble suction cups. The last pair of abdominal feet are sometimes called anal feet.

- Butterfly larvae usually have five pairs of legs (including the anal feet). Within the family of moths, larvae have only two pairs of legs. In mining butterfly larvae, the legs are usually very small and can sometimes be missing.

- If the caterpillar has 6 or more pairs of legs, it is a plant mite, and must be controlled in other ways, for example with a natural pyrethroid.

Use

When treating, it is important that the entire plant is covered with spray liquid so that the larva easily comes into contact with the product. The best effect is obtained if LARVA protection is used against small larvae. The larvae stop eating after a couple of hours and die after a couple of days. Larvae that are unprotected on the plant are the easiest to treat. Those that spin themselves, crawl into buds or fruits are difficult to treat.

Avoid using LARVA protection in sunlight as the product is broken down by sunlight. Spray in dry weather. Rain and irrigation will wash off the product. At temperatures below 12–15 °C, the effect of LARVA protection is reduced as butterfly larvae become less active. It may take up to 2–5 days after treatment for the larvae to die. The treatment may need to be repeated, with at least 7 days between each treatment.

Lavandin of the 'Grosso' variety: current height 20–30 cm

Common name: Lavandin
Scientific name: Lavandula × intermedia
Family: Lamiaceae

Plant history & use

Lavandin 'Grosso' is one of the most cultivated lavandin varieties in commercial production – especially in France where it is grown extensively for its high content of essential oil and distinct, classic lavender scent. It is a sturdy and vigorous variety that suits both herb gardens and larger plantings. Lavandin is taller than true lavender and is therefore better suited for use as a low-growing hedge.

The flowers are used for drying, lavender sachets, tea blends, herb salt, and natural body care. Lavandin has traditionally been used to create calm, relieve headaches, and support sleep – often in the form of scented sachets or decoctions.

Cultivation

Thrives in sunny, well-drained, and preferably lime-rich locations. 'Grosso' is stronger than common lavender and quickly forms large, dense plants. Excellent as a low hedge or as a solitary plant in larger herb beds. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Tolerates heat and drought well but requires drainage to survive the winter.

Characteristics

Perennial: Perennial
Growing position: Sun
Height: 60–80 cm
Hardiness zone: 1–5 (with good drainage)
Flowering: July–August

Lavandin of the 'Phenomenal' variety: current height 5–10 cm

Common name: Lavandin
Scientific name: Lavandula × intermedia
Family: Lamiaceae

Plant history & use

Lavandin is a cross between true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia), developed to combine the former’s scent with the latter’s growth strength and hardiness. The 'Phenomenal' variety is especially known for its hardiness, dense shape, and ability to withstand both moisture and cold better than many other lavender varieties. Lavandin also grows taller than common lavender – making it well suited for a low-growing hedge.

The flowers have a high essential oil content and are used just like common lavender for drying, scent sachets, tea blends, herbal mixtures, and natural skin care. Lavandin is also commercially used for extracting lavender oil, thanks to its rich fragrance.

Cultivation

Thrives in full sun in well-drained, preferably lime-rich soil. Tolerates both heat and drought, but also Swedish winter better than most lavender varieties – provided good drainage. Prune back after flowering to keep the plant compact. Excellent in flower beds, herb gardens, slopes, or as an edging plant.

Characteristics

Perennial: Perennial
Growing position: Sun
Height: 50–70 cm
Hardiness zone: 1–5 (good drainage required)
Flowering: July–August

The flowers have a clear, fragrant scent and attract many pollinators. Lavender is used both fresh and dried – in tea blends, baking, lavender sugar, herbal mixtures, homemade salves, or as decoration. In traditional herbal use, lavender is said to promote calm, digestion, and sleep.

Cultivation

Plant in a sunny, warm, and well-drained spot – preferably with some sand or gravel in the soil.
