Beneficial animals for controlling earwig larvae. For outdoor use. Available in packages of 10 million or 50 million.
Orders placed by Sunday evening are shipped the following Tuesday.
The nematodes (Heterorhabditis sp.) are delivered in quantities of 10 million or 50 million in a mixture of fine clay. Nematodes, also called roundworms, are microscopically small. They occur naturally in the soil, but usually not in sufficient numbers.
After diluting the product in water, the nematodes actively search the soil for earwig larvae. When a larva is found, it is infected by the nematodes and dies. Infected larvae turn ochre-colored. The dead larva then serves as a kind of “shell” where the nematodes multiply. These nematodes can only live on insect larvae and therefore do not harm plants.
Treatment times
Since only the larval stages of the earwig are infected by the nematodes, it is important to coordinate treatment times with the earwig larva’s life cycle. In the garden and other treated areas, treatment can be done in May/June and in August/September.
Instructions for use
Use when the soil temperature is between 12 and 25°C for effective treatment.
The contents of the bag are dissolved in water and watered onto the soil around the affected plants. The week after treatment, the soil should be kept lightly moist.
10 million is enough for treating about 10-20 m², and 50 million for about 50-100 m².
Follow up the control
The control of earwig larvae is very effective, but since the adult earwigs can live for over a year, eggs will continue to be laid during the first year. Therefore, collect any adult earwigs at night using a lantern, and monitor the control in the soil. Two to three weeks after treatment, you should be able to find dead brown larvae along the roots of the plant.
