The berries are resistant to rainy periods and do not crack easily.</p> <p class="p1">'Lapins' is a Canadian variety developed by Karl O. Lapins in 1965 by crossing the varieties 'Van' and 'Stella'. The variety won the <em>Award of Garden Merit</em> in 2014.</p> <p class="p1">Semi-dwarf variety that does not grow taller than 3.5 to 5.5 meters.</p> <p class="p1">Blooms beautifully in spring. It is naturally occurring in Sweden and is very good at catching aphids. During its life cycle it can eat up to 600 of them. The aphid lion is used to advantage in cases of heavy infestations in a limited area, so-called "hot spots".</p> <p>It pinches the aphid between its cheekbones and sucks the aphid out. The nearest aphids are warned, and then fall off the plant. As this can make control more difficult, it is recommended to put a fine net around the plant, which keeps both aphids and aphid lions in place. The larva grows from 2-3 mm to about 1 cm during the 2 weeks that it eats aphids.</p> <p>Works best in low cultures.</p> <p>Delivered in packages of 500 in a small carton.</p> <p><strong>User manual</strong></p> <p>When receiving the delivery, the white protection on the cardboard box should be torn off. Gently tap the back so that the larvae fall out onto the plant. There is one larva in each compartment. If you are going to put them on different plants, only pull off part of the protection so that they do not all fall out onto the same plant.</p> <p>Should be put out immediately after receipt but can be stored for a few days at 8-10 degrees.</p>

In Asia, they are also used to make juice and fermented into wine.</p> <p data-mce-fragment="1">The bark on thicker trunks flakes off, creating a beautiful pattern of varied colors.</p> <p data-mce-fragment="1">The leaves of the tree also turn a beautiful bright red/orange color in autumn.</p> <p data-mce-fragment="1"><strong data-mce-fragment="1">Cultivation:</strong></p> <p data-mce-fragment="1"><meta charset="utf-8">Flowering Dogwood is a deciduous tree that thrives well in most parts of Sweden. The tree is relatively long-lived (50-150 years) and hardy against cold climates.</p> <p data-mce-fragment="1">Unlike many plants, Flowering Dogwood does well in shady locations. It also prefers to be sheltered from wind. When grown in direct sun, the tree tends to produce more fruits, but smaller in size.</p> <p data-mce-fragment="1">An ideal growing place for Flowering Dogwood is under one or more taller deciduous trees – which provide shade and add organic material to the soil – surrounded by additional vegetation in various layers. This contributes to the moist, wind-sheltered, and partly shaded environment in which Flowering Dogwood grows best. The tree’s bright flowering can also brighten an otherwise shady "grove." Flowering Dogwood has low care needs and yields large recurring harvests every year.<br></p> <p data-mce-fragment="1">For the above reasons, Flowering Dogwood is an excellent tree to have in a food forest. If you do not have such a place in your growing area, a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade also works well.</p> <p data-mce-fragment="1"><strong data-mce-fragment="1">Sowing:</strong></p> <p data-mce-fragment="1">These seeds germinate best if given a cold period of 3-4 months.
