'Lapins' is a self-fertile variety = only one tree is needed. However, fruit setting is improved by having another variety nearby.

History & use:
'Lapins' is a sweet cherry variety with large dark berries. Similar to the sweet cherries usually found in stores and street stands in both color and size. The berries can reach up to 3.3 cm in diameter and weigh 8-10 grams. The fruit has firm, juicy flesh and a crisp texture. The taste is sweet, with a slight tartness and very aromatic. The berries are resistant to rainy periods and do not crack easily.
'Lapins' is a Canadian variety developed by Karl O. Lapins in 1965 by crossing the varieties 'Van' and 'Stella'. The variety won the Award of Garden Merit in 2014.
Semi-dwarf variety that does not grow taller than 3.5 to 5.5 meters.
Blooms beautifully in spring. Fruit ripens from late July to early August.
Good pollinator for almost all other cherry varieties.
Cultivation:
Prefers locations with full sun and moist, nutrient-rich, well-drained soil.
Pruning promotes fruit setting. These plants were pruned in 2024.
Pollinated by varieties such as 'Merton Glory', 'Stella' and others.
