<p data-mce-fragment="1"><span data-mce-fragment="1">The black raspberry, <em>Rubus occidentalis,</em> is a black colored variant of the more common red raspberry, <em>Rubus ideaus.</em> As can be seen above, however, they are two completely different species. The black raspberry is described as highly disease resistant, easy to grow and early bearing. The black raspberry is also more resistant to heat and drought. The berries keep their shape for several days in the fridge after harvesting.</span></p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"><span data-mce-fragment="1">The black raspberry has also been called the "King of Berries" due to its reputed health benefits. The berries contain high levels of antioxidants and also anthocyanins (the group of substances that give fruits and vegetables their dark color - blue/purple/black) which have an anti-inflammatory effect and are also linked to processes in the body in the form of improved memory and increased eyesight .</span></p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"><span data-mce-fragment="1">The variety 'Black Jewel' has berries with a high sweetness and a pleasant aftertaste that remains after the berries have been eaten. The berries have a glossy appearance and make an eye-catching addition to the cultivation.</span></p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"><span data-mce-fragment="1">The berries can be both dried and frozen for later use. They are good in smoothies. You can also make jam and juice from black raspberries.</span></p>

<p data-mce-fragment="1">Soapwort is used, as its name suggests, as a soap, shampoo and detergent. Soapwort is a native useful plant that in traditional Sweden was often used both for washing textiles and for personal hygiene. Today it is used in acne treatments.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> The entire plant is useful, i.e. flowers, leaves, roots and stem. The soapwort contains fat-soluble substances that foam together with water. The highest concentration of the fat-soluble substances is found in the root. The foaming liquid can then be washed in, used as shampoo & soap or as a general cleaning agent.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"><meta charset="utf-8"> <span>Despite its toxicity, Saponaria officinalis is used in cooking. It acts as an emulsifier in commercial tahini production and helps create an airy foam in beer brewing. In the Middle East, the root is used as an additive in the manufacture of halva to stabilize the oils and give halva its unique texture.<meta charset="utf-8"> characterized by.</span></p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1">The flowers smell sweet in the evenings and are diligent when it comes to attracting pollinators.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> <strong data-mce-fragment="1">Cultivation</strong> :</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> Since the Soapwort is adapted to the Swedish climate, there are no difficulties in growing it outdoors here. It thrives in most soils, slightly clayey soils work best. Sun/partial shade are good locations. Grows 30-100 cm tall depending on the growing location.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> Soapwort can spread quite a bit via underground runners. So choose carefully where you plant it. Preferably fenced in and by itself if you don't want it to take over the crop.<strong data-mce-fragment="1"></strong></p>

<p data-mce-fragment="1">Gotu Kola is a well-known medicinal plant that originates from Asia. It has long been used to relieve stress and anxiety, among other things. It is also commonly used for skin conditions such as eczema, wounds and acne as it improves the elasticity of the skin. Gotu Kola is an adaptogen and, like<span> </span><a href="https://tradgardsdags.nu/collections/froavdelning/products/ashwagandha-indisk-ginseng-withania-somnifera" title="Ashwagandha seeds" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color: #4e991d;" data-mce-style="color: #4e991d;">Ashwagandha<span> </span></span></strong></a>It is one of the few plants with a very wide range of uses in traditional medicine. There are a variety of scientific articles to read for those interested in learning more in depth.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> For purely medicinal purposes, extracts are made from the plant. However, its health-promoting properties can also be utilized in food and drinks.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1">In Burma, for example, salad is often made with "Pennywort" as a base together with tomato, onion & peanuts etc. Tea is also brewed from the leaves or a cooling drink is made by pressing the fresh leaves.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> <span style="text-decoration: underline;" data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;">There are two different varieties of Gotu Kola:</span><br></p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> One of them has whole, round leaves and is better suited to growing directly in water - but it also grows well in soil. This variety spreads horizontally by means of underground (/under the water surface) rhizomes that are slightly thicker than the leaf stem itself.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> The other variety has a small gap in its leaf shape right where the petiole meets the leaf - this variety spreads by means of long, narrow above-ground stolons like strawberries. Judging by its similar growth habit, it is not difficult to understand that Gotu Kola is also a good ground cover.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1">Both variants contain the same active ingredients, but it is the latter variant that is most often used in the manufacture of dietary supplements, etc. As can be seen in the pictures, our plants belong to the latter variant.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> <strong data-mce-fragment="1">Culture:</strong></p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> In its natural environment, Gotu Kola is often found growing in <span data-mce-fragment="1">water</span> , in damp soil, and along roadsides and hedgerows.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> It is an easy-to-grow and vigorous plant that thrives best in moisture-retaining soil in semi-shady locations. One advantage is to let it grow in airy soil with lots of organic matter as it requires moisture-retaining properties while excess water easily drains off/down into a basin. Gotu Kola can also grow in drier soils.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> The Gotu Kola plant spreads quickly, so if grown in a pot, a wide pot is preferable.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1"> This plant usually does not grow taller than 30 cm, but it does like to spread up to 1 m horizontally.</p>
<p data-mce-fragment="1">For this reason, it is an effective ground cover in intercropping with other crops.</p>
