The tree is characterized by its fluffy, light pink flowers that resemble a silky feather crown. Its beauty has made it a cherished tree worldwide. The silk tree has also been used for its edible and medicinal properties for centuries. Young leaves are eaten as a vegetable - boiled or steamed. They are described as having an aromatic taste. Flowers are also boiled for consumption. A historically well-known kitchen plant in its native regions. <meta charset="utf-8">The plant’s bark, leaves, flowers & flower buds are used to make tea and extracts with reputed health benefits. Flowers are harvested when opening and the bark is harvested in spring or late summer to be dried for later use. When the American Judas Tree was discovered by the Spaniards in the latter half of the 1500s, it was compared to the Judas Tree from the Mediterranean region (Cercis siliquastrum) that they already knew – this is also the tree we most commonly refer to when we say Judas Tree here in the European region. The main differences are that the American Judas Tree has pointed leaves and is somewhat smaller in mature size, as well as being more frost-hardy – compare C. canadensis USDA zones 4-9 with C. siliquastrum USDA zones 6-10. C. canadensis is also said to be better suited for moist environments/soils than many other species in the genus. It blooms in March-April with bright pink flowers on bare branches, also on the main trunk of the tree, which is often very striking. The flowering is said to be strongly influenced by the severity of the preceding winter. After harsh winters, the Judas Tree blooms more abundantly; after milder winters, less so. The flowers can be eaten raw or pickled. They have a refreshing sour taste and are rich in vitamin C. An exciting addition to a salad. Like the cherry trees, the Cornelian cherry dogwood also produces interesting, edible berries that can be used in many ways. The natural range of the Cornelian cherry dogwood stretches from central and southeastern Europe to western Asia around the Caucasus, but it has also been successfully planted in, among other places, Sweden and North America. The Cornelian cherry dogwood is usually valued for its ornamental qualities early in the year. With its abundant flowering on bare branches in March-April, it is a refreshing sight before much else has sprouted. Because of this, it also serves as a valuable early source of nectar and pollen for pollinators. The flowers are small and yellow and grow in clusters. From the flowers come then olive-shaped red berries that are edible. These ripen late in summer or early autumn. The fruit is hard, sour, and astringent before it is ripe but softens as it becomes sweeter. The flowers have a lovely apricot-like scent and are widely used as a flavouring for teas in China. The shrub also produces edible fruits that resemble olives both in shape and preparation method. The shrub is evergreen with dense, fine foliage and is well suited as a privacy hedge in sheltered locations. The scent of apricots often spreads far in the garden when the shrub is in bloom. These flowers are used not only to flavour so-called Osmanthus teas, but also to flavour desserts, baked goods, wines, other alcoholic drinks, and even dishes. An essential oil can also be obtained from the flowers. The fruits resemble olives and, just like olives, are prepared by being placed in brine. Surprisingly similar to pickled olives. Flowers are also added to various modern medicines to mask unpleasant tastes. In traditional medicine, the flowers are used, among other things, as a cough suppressant. Other parts of the plant have a range of health-giving properties that interested readers can explore further. A shrub with a wide native range stretching from the Himalayas through the Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Sichuan, and Yunnan, to Taiwan, Japan, and even parts of Southeast Asia. In short, an apricot-scented Chinese lilac with edible olive-like fruits. Cultivation: Hardy down to USDA zone 7, roughly corresponding to Swedish zones 1-2 in sheltered locations. Well suited as a privacy hedge in sheltered spots thanks to <meta charset="utf-8"> its dense growth habit and evergreen foliage. However, it should not be placed as a hedge in locations directly exposed to strong cold winter winds. Tolerant of many different soil types. <meta charset="utf-8"> Prefers mostly sunny locations with some light shade in our climate. Partial shade also works. <meta charset="utf-8"> Thrives very well against a warm south-facing wall. <meta charset="utf-8"> Very drought-tolerant. The flowers become more colourful in sunny locations. Grows somewhat slowly at first. Once established, it can grow as much as 50 cm in one season. After our own search for good garden shoes, we found the brand Rouchette, where we especially came to love their ankle boots made of natural rubber & insulated with neoprene for the comfort they provide.

The shoes are also designed with a practical outer sole that prevents soil from sticking and being brought into the home - the Frotte&Go system. This technique has been exclusively developed by Rouchette. Rouchette originally is a family business from France but thanks to their comfortable and practical shoes has spread to both South America and countries like South Korea in the east.

The shoes are made in Portugal and France.
