The leaves have a crisp texture and the taste is described as savory, nutty, and onion-like. Another source describes the flavor of the cooked leaves as a complex meal in itself—more specifically: like roasted beans with hints of onion and pepper. "Even those who do not like vegetables might enjoy Toon." The leaves are rich in vitamin A and contain about 6% protein, 1% fat, 6.6% carbohydrates, and 1.5% various minerals. The leaves are most often prepared as part of stir-fries or by steaming/boiling to eat as a side vegetable. They can also be fried in a tempura-like manner. In spring, it produces numerous bright white flowers that brighten shady parts of the garden. At the end of summer, the tree bears peculiar pink-red edible fruits about 2-3 cm in diameter. These fruits can be made into jam or baked into pies. In Asia, juice is made from them and they are fermented into wine. The bark on thicker trunks flakes off and creates a beautiful pattern of varied colors. The leaves of the tree also turn a beautiful bright red/orange color in autumn. Cultivation: Flowering dogwood is a deciduous tree that thrives well in most parts of Sweden. The tree is relatively long-lived (50-150 years) and hardy against cold climates. Unlike many plants, flowering dogwood thrives well in shady locations. It also prefers to be sheltered from wind. When the tree stands in direct sun, it tends to produce more fruits, but of smaller size. An optimal growing place for flowering dogwood is under one or more taller deciduous trees – which provide shade and add organic material to the soil – surrounded by additional vegetation in various layers. This contributes to the moist, wind-sheltered, and partly shaded environment in which flowering dogwood grows best. The tree’s bright flowering can also brighten an otherwise shady "grove". Korean Ginseng is often used to improve stamina, reduce fatigue and boost cognitive functions. <meta charset="utf-8"> Korean Ginseng is often used in various dietary supplements. Its roots have long been sought after for their health-promoting abilities and are also used dried in the form of tea, extract and powder. Ginseng tea is considered calming and can help reduce stress and improve sleep quality. <h4>Cultivation:</h4> Korean Ginseng is a perennial plant that thrives best in shady and moist environments. Start by keeping the seed warm and moist at around +18 to +22°C for 2-4 weeks. Then you give the seed to a cold period (the fridge works well) for another 4-6 weeks. You can also consider sowing outdoors in the open field, in cold benches or cold greenhouses. This has proven successful even as late as March, April and May. Germination can take anywhere from 3 to 18 months. Cornelian cherry dogwood: current height 40-80 cm Common name: Cornelian cherry dogwood, Cornelian Cherry Scientific name: Cornus mas Family: Cornaceae Plant history & use: We like to refer to the Cornelian cherry dogwood as Europe’s (yellow-flowered) counterpart to Sakura – the Japanese cherry trees, which also bloom on bare branches. Like the cherry trees, the Cornelian cherry dogwood also produces interesting, edible berries that can be used in many ways. The natural range of the Cornelian cherry dogwood stretches from central and southeastern Europe to western Asia around the Caucasus, but it has also been successfully planted in, among other places, Sweden and North America. The Cornelian cherry dogwood is usually valued for its ornamental qualities early in the year. With its abundant flowering on bare branches in March-April, it is a refreshing sight before much else has sprouted. Because of this, it also serves as a valuable early source of nectar and pollen for pollinators. The flowers are small and yellow and grow in clusters. From the flowers come then olive-shaped red berries that are edible. These ripen late in summer or early autumn. The fruit is hard, sour, and astringent before it is ripe but softens as it becomes sweeter. Another sign that the fruit is ripe is to look at the ground – when the fruit starts to fall, it has sweetened. For easier harvest, you can shake the branches and then pick up the berries that fall, since not all ripen at the same time. The berries, described as tasting like cranberry/sour cherry/plum, can be used to make jelly, jam, juice, fruit wine, and as cocktail berries. The stones can be roasted, ground, and then used as a coffee substitute, and unripe fruits can be pickled and eaten as a substitute for olives. The Cornelian cherry dogwood has long been used in Mediterranean countries and western Asia precisely for its fruits and the medicinal properties they are believed to have. The berries contain a high amount of vitamin C and the antioxidant anthocyanin, which gives the fruit its color. The Cornelian cherry dogwood is self-pollinating but the harvest can be more abundant if several individuals are planted together. The hard wood of the Cornelian cherry dogwood was highly valued by the ancient Romans and Greeks for making, among other things, spears and bows. Cultivation: The Cornelian cherry dogwood thrives best in full sun to partial shade but also does well in shadier places, though it will produce fewer berries there. If allowed to grow freely, it becomes a broad and bushy shrub. It is also excellent to train it into a small tree, and the crown can become as wide as the tree is tall. When growing freely, it becomes multi-stemmed, but it is equally possible to keep and train one of the stems. The Cornelian cherry dogwood can also be used as a hedge plant as it responds well to pruning. It has an upright growth habit, but if the branches grow long, their tips may start to point downward. The Cornelian cherry dogwood prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil and is not picky about pH, although calcareous soil is especially favorable. All seed varieties in the shop contribute to a practical addition to the cultivation. Our seeds consist of open-pollinated as well as hand-pollinated varieties; we believe that genetic diversity in the garden contributes to a healthier ecosystem that extends beyond the borders of our crops.

After our own search for good garden shoes, we found the brand Rouchette, where we especially came to love their ankle boots made of natural rubber & insulated with neoprene for the comfort they provide.

The shoes are also designed with a practical outer sole that prevents soil from sticking and being brought into the home - the Frotte&Go system. This technique has been exclusively developed by Rouchette. Rouchette originally is a family business from France but thanks to their comfortable and practical shoes has spread to both South America and countries like South Korea in the east.

The shoes are made in Portugal and France.
