It is not simply a matter of deciding what would be good to eat, and planting the corresponding food plants in beds alongside rows or patches of woodland. Most books about food forests, woodland gardening or carbon farming concentrate on the design principles involved. This is useful where you have an outlet for gray water. Gray water is the water that comes out when we clean used water from our kitchens and bathrooms - e.g. dishwashers, washing machines, showers, etc. When this water is purified, various salts are often left behind, which are carried out into the runoff. It is in these outlets that plants such as the Praktamarisken are planted, which seems to be one of the most efficient plants precisely at taking up salt from the ground it grows in. Inability to take up excess salts in the soil can result in problems for surrounding plants, then it affects their natural ability to absorb water via osmosis.</p> <p><meta charset="utf-8"> You can also grow the Praktamarisken as a shrub. Like the green variety, the fruits of red okra are a well-used ingredient in cooking thanks to their crunchy texture and binding properties. The fruits can be used in the same way as the greens, both in stews and soups, but also raw as a snack. The leaves of red okra can also be used raw in salads or stir-fries.</p> <p>The big difference between red and green okra is of course the red color - which makes the variety a popular ornamental plant.</p> <p><strong>Culture:</strong></p> <p>Like green okra, red okra is drought tolerant and grows best in well-drained, loamy soil. It thrives best in heat and is sensitive to frost, so cultivation in Sweden is mainly recommended in greenhouses or covered growing beds during the spring.</p> <p>Red okra is self-pollinating, so a single plant is sufficient to bear fruit. For best results, give the plant continuous irrigation and nutrient supply.</p> <p>The fruits of red okra should be picked at an early, unripe stage while they are still red and soft.
