Stone pine nuts have been used in trade for at least 6000 years and remain an important economic crop today. What are actually the seeds inside the tree’s cones are widely used in cooking, bread baking, and desserts. The flowers then turn into small olive-green, scale-like leaves. The tamarisk is known for its ability to absorb and concentrate salts in its plant parts. This is useful where there is an outlet for greywater. Greywater is the water that comes out when we purify used water from our kitchens and bathrooms - for example dishwashers, washing machines, showers, etc. When this water is purified, various salts often remain and follow out in the drainage. It is in these outlets that plants like the tamarisk are planted, which appears to be one of the most effective plants at absorbing salt from the soil it grows in. The inability to absorb excess salts in the soil can cause problems for surrounding plants, as it affects their natural water uptake ability through osmosis. <meta charset="utf-8">You can also grow the tamarisk as a shrub. If you do not shape it as a tree by pruning, it usually attains the structure of a shrub on its own. Well suited to grow in mixed hedges as it creates a striking impression with its bright, pale pink shades that lift the whole hedge. The branches are used for weaving baskets. The flowers have a scent similar to honeysuckle. The tree originates from the area around India and Myanmar. Like the <a href="https://tradgardsdags.nu/products/orkidetrad-orkidebauhinia-bauhinia-variegata" title="Orchid Tree / Orchid Bauhinia 'Candida' (Bauhinia variegata)" target="_blank">Orchid Tree (Bauhinia variegata)</a>, the flower buds, flowers, young leaves, and young seed pods of the Purple Bauhinia are edible. You can pickle the unopened flower buds in a way similar to how we pickle <a href="https://tradgardsdags.nu/products/kapris-capparis-spinosa" title="Capers (Capparis spinosa)" target="_blank">Capers</a> in Europe. They can also be added to stews and made into various types of salsa. The flower buds are called Kachnar in Indian - this is also the search term used if you want to find recipes for using the unopened flower buds. Seed pods are boiled and eaten as a vegetable on the side. Seeds can be fried or roasted in a pan for consumption. In Southeast Asia, the Purple Bauhinia is also used to soothe swellings, bruises, and to heal wounds. In India, the leaves are used to make a type of cough medicine. Cultivation: The Purple Bauhinia originates from subtropical and tropical climates in southern Asia. All seed varieties in the shop contribute to a practical addition to the cultivation. Our seeds consist of open-pollinated as well as hand-pollinated varieties; we believe that genetic diversity in the garden contributes to a healthier ecosystem that extends beyond the borders of our crops.

After our own search for good garden shoes, we found the brand Rouchette, where we especially came to love their ankle boots made of natural rubber & insulated with neoprene for the comfort they provide.

The shoes are also designed with a practical outer sole that prevents soil from sticking and being brought into the home - the Frotte&Go system. This technique has been exclusively developed by Rouchette. Rouchette originally is a family business from France but thanks to their comfortable and practical shoes has spread to both South America and countries like South Korea in the east.

The shoes are made in Portugal and France.
