'Lapins' is a blackcurrant variety with large dark berries. Similar in color and size to the blackcurrants you can usually buy in stores and on street stalls. The berries can be up to 3.3 cm in diameter and weigh 8-10 grams. The fruit has a firm, juicy flesh and a crispy texture. The taste is sweet, with a slight acidity and very aromatic. The berries are resistant to rainy periods and do not crack easily.
'Lapins' is a Canadian variety developed by Karl O. Lapins in 1965 by crossing the varieties 'Van' and 'Stella'. The variety won the Award of Garden Merit in 2014.
