Common name: American Blueberry
Scientific name: Vaccinium corymbosum
Family: Heather family
Plant history & use
’Northland’ is a hardy and easy-to-grow variety of American blueberry developed in Michigan, USA. It yields abundant harvests of medium-sized, sweet berries with good blueberry flavor. The berries are equally suitable for eating fresh as for jam, pie, baking, or freezing. Blueberries are rich in antioxidants, especially anthocyanins, and have been used in both food and traditional medicine to support eyesight, digestion, and blood circulation.
Cultivation
Thrives in sun to partial shade in moisture-retentive, well-drained, and acidic soil (low pH). For the best harvest, the plant should be watered regularly during dry periods. 'Northland' has a bushy growth habit and tolerates cold well – it is known for its reliable harvest even in northern growing zones. Produces a good yield as a single plant but even better when planted together with other varieties for cross-pollination.
