History of cultivation & use
The almond tree has a long tradition of cultivation in warm and dry areas around the Mediterranean. The 'Ferragnes' variety is a French high-quality almond type that produces large and tasty nuts with a medium-hard shell. For a good harvest, the variety needs to be cross-pollinated with another almond type.
Almonds are used fresh, roasted, and in cooking and baking. Alternatively, to make your own almond oil.
Cultivation
Thrives in sunny, warm, and sheltered locations in well-drained, lime-rich soil. Tolerates drought once established but should be watered regularly during establishment. Hardy for outdoor cultivation in zones 1–2. There are also those who successfully grow almond trees in zones 3 and 4 in favorable locations.
Otherwise, for cultivation in a larger pot that is kept frost-free during winter.
