Chinese Judas Tree: current height 40–50 cm Common name: Chinese Judas Tree, Chinese Redbud Scientific name: Cercis chinensis Family: Fabaceae <h4>History & use</h4> The Chinese Judas Tree is an ornamental deciduous tree native to eastern China, where it has been cultivated for centuries both for its value as a decorative tree and for its edible seed pods. The species blooms on bare branches – even directly on the trunk – early in spring, usually in April, with dense clusters of purple-pink flowers growing directly on the trunk and branches. This phenomenon is called cauliflory and is especially striking in early spring. The flowers are edible and have a fresh, slightly tart taste. They can be used fresh in salads or pickled. The young seed pods are also edible and can be cooked like sugar peas. The seeds are edible as well. There is also some use of the young leaves in cooking in its native area. <h4>Comparison with American Judas Tree (Cercis canadensis)</h4> The Chinese Judas Tree (C. chinensis) and the American Judas Tree (C. canadensis) are closely related but differ in several important ways: <ul> <li> Growth habit: C. chinensis often has a bushier growth habit, while C. canadensis tends to become a tree with a more distinct main trunk. However, C. chinensis can be trained into a single-stemmed tree by cutting away low-growing branches on the trunk.</li> <li> Leaves: C. chinensis often has thicker leaves than C. canadensis. The flowers smell delightfully apricot-like and are widely used as a flavouring for teas in China. The shrub also produces edible fruits which resemble olives both in shape and in their method of preparation. The shrub is also evergreen with strong, fine foliage and is well suited as a privacy hedge in sheltered locations. The scent of apricots often spreads far in the garden when the shrub is in bloom. These flowers are used not only to flavour so-called Osmanthus teas, but also to flavour desserts, baked goods, wines, other alcoholic drinks, and even dishes. An essential oil can also be obtained from the flowers. The fruits resemble olives and, just like olives, they are prepared by being placed in brine. Surprisingly similar to pickled olives. Here you will find seeds from rare and ancient cultivated plants. Many of these plants have long been used by people for their useful qualities – this can include edible as well as medicinal and household properties.

All seed varieties in the shop contribute to a practical addition to the cultivation. Our seeds consist of open-pollinated as well as hand-pollinated varieties; we believe that genetic diversity in the garden contributes to a healthier ecosystem that extends beyond the borders of our crops.

Here you will find super comfortable shoe models designed specifically for garden time as well as other models suitable for various occasions in the garden. After our own search for good garden shoes, we found the brand Rouchette, where we especially came to love their ankle boots made of natural rubber & insulated with neoprene for the comfort they provide.

The shoes are also designed with a practical outer sole that prevents soil from sticking and being brought into the home - the Frotte&Go system. This technique has been exclusively developed by Rouchette. Rouchette originally is a family business from France but thanks to their comfortable and practical shoes has spread to both South America and countries like South Korea in the east.

The shoes are made in Portugal and France.

It is no exaggeration to say these are the most comfortable and practical boots we have had - and our customers usually agree. You can feel it immediately when you put your foot in the shoe.

The ankle boots are also suitable for hunting or the stable.
