It is primarily the unripe, green or black, ripe olives that are harvested for pickling or pressing into oil. Untreated olives are very bitter but can be eaten after soaking or fermenting. The tree is grown in pots, greenhouses, or outdoors in the most favorable locations in Sweden with winter protection. The olive tree is both beautiful and productive. The leaves are gray-green and leathery, and the tree can yield harvests even in pots under the right conditions.</p> <p>Olive trees are also used for erosion control in exposed areas.</p> <h4>Cultivation</h4> <p><meta charset="utf-8">These specimens with thicker trunks have especially good wood maturity, and the supplier states that they withstand temperatures down to –18 °C for short periods, especially in sheltered locations with well-drained soil.</p> <p>Thrives in full sun, preferably in well-drained, lime-rich soil. In India, the unopened flower buds, called Kachnar there, are used both to prepare curries and to make various pickles. The fruits are small and hairless, and are eaten with the peel on. , unlike the hairy kiwifruit we are used to buying in stores.</p> <p>The fruits are sweet and flavorful and resemble the common kiwi in taste. The variety is very hardy in our Nordic climate and has a compact growth habit, making it suitable for covering a surface - for example a wall or trellis.</p> <p> The fruits ripen in September-October.</p> <p class="p1"> <span class="s1">The fruits are a rich source of vitamin C (up to 5 times more than blackcurrants, for example) and can be eaten straight from the plant without peeling. The optimal growing location is in a greenhouse, against a wall or a trellis.
